No this is NOT about “small bikes” although my road bike is a smaller frame size
This is a pet peeve of mine. Bike lanes.
Cycling in Victoria is a joke. They spent millions building these bike lanes. Now we have so many curbs so many ramps so many little curves and dipsy-doodles you really see the Nanny State when you’re out trying to maneuver and finesse your way around them.
Sorry I don’t fit into your perfect tiny little world and you’re right I shouldn’t be cycling I am old and fat and shouldn’t be cycling but I am. And I will stay out here. I am quite happy to be laughed at as the oldest ugliest drummer or the oldest fattest cyclist than the youngest person in the old age home!
And I’ll say it again until I’m blue in the face bike lanes are not for bicycle riders.
Having cycled here in the 90s it was a pleasure. The roads are for bicycle riders. We are vehicles. One of the ways you can tell Victoria messed up is riding on the Galloping Goose which I do exclusively because the bike lanes are so weird just me walking around let alone on a bicycle. The number of E bikes and folks blasting by me tell me – the bike lanes have no appeal. I feel and believe the bike lanes were created by radicals. They wanted to make a point. They wanted to make a progressive statement. They sure as hell didn’t want to make cycling easier or more accessible or more fun. Well done. I repeat. Well done.
(Note: I closed off with that to save all of you the litany of profanity that’s running through my mind right now!)
